Even now, OPEC has cut oil production for no real reason, and it's all to hike up the price since summer is coming and people are gonna travel and go on vacation. Offshore drilling would only cut the costs of importing and would add jobs for people; the jobs being the only real plus to the whole thing. It doesn't matter what is done, BIG OIL works exactly the same as BIG TOBACCO; neither has suffered yet in this recession and probably never will. Regardless of what they say, the gov't backs both industries because they make ALOT of money in the outrageous taxes on oil/gas and tobacco and it will never change, unfortunately for us.
