I finally got my old domain name back. I had danbaxter.com for years then lost it when my registrar went out of business and never got a renew update. I ended up using godaddy’s backorder domain service to snag it.

I recently switched my blog software over to Wordpress. It was running on Typo powered by Ruby on Rails. I decided to make the switch so I could use the new super cool Wordpress iPhone app. So far I like it, Wordpress has more features and options. However, I’m still a big fan of Ruby on Rails. Hopefully, I will keep up with my blog more, now that I can make updates from my phone.

Why Offshore Drilling is a Joke

I started thinking about this offshore drilling debate tonight while drinking. Lets say we do offshore drilling and in 8-10 years it actually produces an extra 200,000 barrels per day (1% of our daily oil consumption). Does anyone actually believe that this oil is going to be any cheaper then buying barrels from foreign countries like Canada and Mexico? The last time I checked anything made in America normally cost much more. This is why 99% of everything we buy comes from China. Besides, even if it did cost Exxon/Mobile a bit less to buy 1% off their oil, does anyone actually think they would pass the savings on to us? The American people need to wake up and realize this entire offshore drilling issues is simply a distraction that won’t solve anything. The Republicans are trying to sell this as free oil for everyone. While really its another opportunity for BIG OIL to rake in even greater profits. I just hope electric cars finally catch on and significantly reduce our dependance on oil. However, it will probably take $10 per gallon gas before that happens.

It seems every year the black friday sale ads leak earlier. I’m starting to wonder if its now an advertising tactic used by these stores. Last week we received the rumored Ace Hardware black friday ad including a ad scan that appears to be legit. We will be launching a new Black Friday shopping site shortly but for the time being we will be posting sales in the SundaySaver Black Friday section.

American Express + iPhone Rocks!

I just wanted to thank AMEX for crediting my account due to the iPhone price drop. So not only did Apple send me $100 store credit AMEX also gave me the difference back. I guess being a early iPhone adopter wasn’t so bad after all.

I was shocked to find my little blog mentioned on the very popular Web 2.0 blog Techcrunch.com this week. It seems I was one of the first people to spot a new prototype Google layout. Thanks to Google Blogoscoped you can follow this simple steps to try out the new design for yourself.

I was doing some searches tonight and at first I thought I was on the wrong site. It seems Google is testing out a new results page and I was lucky enough to get a first hand peak at it. Hopefully it doesn’t disappear. This is one of the most drastic style changes that Google has ever made. It has a very YouTube inspired look. However, I’m not sure I can get use to all the white space on the left. Has anyone else seen this layout?

I need to find something worth blogging about.
